How To Repair The Rearbtail Gate Latch On A 2004 4runner

Icon front upper arm support and shocks and heavy duty rear springs. ARB rear locker.

My tailgate has been interim up one time in a while for virtually two years. Information technology finally won't open any more. pulling the tailgate handle creates a dissonance and I tin see the lever activity happening but not allowing information technology to open up. I bought a new motor just that didn't help. I bought a new release handle but that didn't help. And so now I'm stuck with a situation whereby I want to set the problem but non sure what is the adjacent pace. I normalized the electronics and that's non information technology either. Adjacent product to supervene upon is the estimator / electronic module where all the wires become into the door and to the latch, wiper and window.
Does anyone know what might be happening?

Try pushing in on the hatch before pulling the lever. Keep leaning on it until after the mechanism does it's matter, then pull.
If that doesn't work, there is an admission console on the inside of the hatch that I used to reach through to help the machinery. But exist careful every bit you could get pinched if you put your fingers in the incorrect place. I don't highly recommend this method, only it might work.

Did you replace the unabridged latch machinery? When mine finally quit working altogether, I got the mechanism out of some other hatch and information technology was expert equally new again

Hmm. I figured at that place was just the latch machinery and the push button in the handle above the license plate. I didn't know there was a computer for the hatch. Weird.
I'chiliad curious what the solution ends upwards being.

If it'southward making sound when you lot press the button it's very probable the lock assembly. Endeavour googling 4 runner hatch won't open up. The part # you need is

69110-35062. Costs around $200 and it's not hard to modify. Very common problem.

I spent over a year trying to figure out what was wrong with mine. Turned out to be the craziest thing. The rubble handle on 4th gen are known for melting under hot temperatures. It had turned into a sticky black goo that would get stuck on the push push machinery, so my tailgate would open up itself when driving down the road, and many times I could not go information technology to stay closed at all. I used the bungee cord affair to concord it shut until I effigy this out. And then unproblematic.
Easy to take apart, and I used some goo-gone type cleaner to become the blackness stuff off the plastic machinery. The popped it back on with the new comprehend and it's like new.

I'm having similar issues with mine. Can't get the tailgate open at all. The button stopped working this weekend when I was within there attempting to oil the latch. It was attempting to open up before that when ever I pulled the handle. At a total loss at this betoken. No thought how to get it open.
